A Legacy of Faith, Formation, and Forward Thinking
For nearly a century, Saint Joseph Junior High School has stood as a testament to the enduring commitment of the Manchester Catholic community to educate not only the mind, but the heart and soul of every child entrusted to its care. Rooted deeply in faith and continually renewed by innovation, St. Joe’s story is one of vision, growth, and an unwavering mission to form kind, empathetic, hardworking, and service-minded young men and women.

Foundations Built on Faith
The origins of Saint Joseph Junior High trace back to the very beginnings of Catholic education in Manchester. In 1886, Saint Joseph Cathedral opened its first school, planting the seeds for a tradition of learning grounded in Gospel values. That commitment came into fuller focus in 1925, when parishioners realized their dream of a dedicated Catholic school with the establishment of Saint Joseph School on Belmont Street. From its earliest days, the school was more than a place of academic instruction—it was a community where faith, character, and scholarship grew side by side.

Growing with Purpose
As Manchester evolved, so too did Saint Joseph School. Responding to the needs of families and the Church, the school gradually expanded and refined its mission, ultimately becoming a regional junior high serving students in grades 7 and 8. This transition allowed Saint Joseph Junior High to focus intentionally on early adolescence—a formative time when students are discovering who they are, what they value, and how they are called to serve others.
Through these years of change, the school never lost sight of its core purpose: helping students develop intellectually, spiritually, socially, and morally. Even when the original building was sold in 2015 and the school temporarily relocated to Cardinal Lacroix Academy, the heart of St. Joe's remained constant—dedicated educators, supportive families, and students eager to learn and grow in faith.
