Staff Member of the Month
Ms.
Cuff, who attended St. Joseph when it was a grammar school, has been a
teacher at St. Joseph for 39 of her 41 teaching years. She says that she
enjoys the staff, teachers, and students (helping to "keep her mind young
and spirit alive"). Her favorite memories of St. Joseph are the students
who have made her laugh, the students who have made her cry,
teachers who have befriended her, parents who have stood beside her, and
principals--who are really "pals." She especially likes nature
photography and interior design, as a visitor to her classroom can see
by the creative ways she uses the "library." Thanks,
Ms. Cuff, for your many years of dedication to St. Joseph. (Also,
thanks for your tireless work ethic and terrific sense of humor!)

A Letter from Mr. Kocsis, English 7 Teacher, Regarding St. Joseph Regional Junior High School:
I taught in public education for twenty-five
years and previous to that, four years in a private school in New Jersey. In
2006 I was hired by Sister Barbara to instruct seventh grade English and have
been here since. I love being a member of the St. Joseph family. I emphasize
family because St. Joe's is more than an institution for learning. It is an
amalgam of teachers, parents and students dedicated in a quest toward spiritual,
educational and physical enrichment.
We have a
varied and experienced faculty with many talents sharing a camaraderie I haven't
seen in other schools. In any emergency, someone is always eager to lend a
helping hand. The enthusiasm of the students is contagious. Witness the
successes of the athletic programs, the talented band, the extraordinary
performances of the drama class. The students fulfill the mission
statement with the annual turkey drive at Thanksgiving, the letters written to
veterans on Veterans Day and the other charitable events engaged in during the
course of the year.
Parental support of
teachers is exceptional whether referring to academic or disciplinary matters.
Most noticeable is the amount of appreciation shown by the parents as witnessed
by the recent Teacher Appreciation Week where the faculty was showered every
morning with edibles, messages of thanks, which culminated in a delicious
luncheon and most thoughtful gifts. I also think of the annual auction where
these same parents are responsible for the bidding which results in its great
success every year.
I conjure many happy
moments in no precise order: walking to the Palace Theater, the joyful
tears at our graduation ceremony at the packed cathedral, the Spelling and
Geography Bees and the annual Halloween Parade. I love the first day of school.
Where else does the year start with a bagpiper parading the students into
hallowed grounds of academia? I hope these traditions continue because they are
the heart and soul of an institution dear to those who administer, attend and
support it.
