SELECTIVE DRESS CODE
BOYS AND GIRLS

You can place your orders online with Land's End by going to www.landsend.com/school and entering St. Joe's preferred school number 9000-7632-4.

The St. Joseph Regional Junior High School dress code sets a high standard for personal growth and self-discipline. Students are encouraged to present themselves with pride and dignity. All clothing should be neat, clean, free from holes, rips or tears, and be properly worn (each student must follow the guidelines). All clothing must be purchased from Lands’ End; Sears sells Lands’ End clothing. Our school number with Lands’ End is 9000-7632-4.

A. Sweaters and blazers: Only sweaters or sweater vests as listed in the Lands’ End brochure may be worn over oxford shirts, turtlenecks, or plain-colored t-shirts. The navy blue blazer on page 10 of the Lands’ End catalogue is a “must” for boys AND girls (please be sure that your child's name is on a label or tag inside his or her blazer!). A white oxford shirt AND tie (for boys, a white oxford shirt (for girls), OR a white turtleneck (boys and girls) are to be worn under the navy blazer on special dress-up days. Only khaki colored pants or khaki colored shorts (in warm weather only) or khaki colored skorts/ skirts are to be worn on dress-up days. All Wednesdays, and whenever students leave the building for special occasions, are dress-up days.

B. Shirts: Any type from Lands’ End.

T -Shirts: Only solid-colored cotton t-shirts, short or long sleeve, may be worn.

Oxford Shirts: Only solid-colored shirts, short or long-sleeve, may be worn.

Polo Shirts: Only solid-colored or striped polo shirts, short or long-sleeve, may be worn.

Turtlenecks: Turtlenecks, any color, as in the Lands’ End catalogue.

Chambray Shirts: Short or long-sleeved chambray shirt (see Lands’ End catalogue); a white t-shirt may be worn under the chambray shirt.

**All tops are to be tucked inside slacks, shorts, skirts, and skorts.

C. Sweatshirts: Crew-nek sweatshirts as seen in the Lands’ End catalogue may be worn. (hoods are NOT allowed).

D. Slacks: Students may wear any type of slacks from Lands’ End, including boys' cargo pants and shorts, and girls' cargo twills and chino flares.. All slacks must be worn with a belt, except elastic waist chinos, which do not need a belt.

Jeans may be worn on birthdays, dress-down days, monthly no-tardy award days, and when stated by the office. NO jeans with holes, or jeans that are not appropriate for school, are permitted.

E. Skorts/Skirts: All skirts are to be at-the-knee or longer length. Skorts may be worn in an above-the knee length. The Lands' End pleated cargo skirt is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

F. Shorts: Khaki or navy blue shorts may be worn in the warmer months (Sept.-Oct. and April-June). An appropriate length for shorts is no greater than 2" above the knee. All shorts must be worn with a belt.

G. Shoes: Sneakers may be worn. Sandals may be worn in warmer weather. Use good judgment on what types of shoes to wear during the school day. Think: Are these shoes safe on school stairs and will the soles of the shoes mark the floors in the school (such as street sneakers)?

H. Hats: Hats or headgear of any kind are not part of the school dress code. They are never to be worn in the building unless permitted by the administration.

I. Hair: Hair should be neat and not a distraction. Administration has the final say on all hair policies.

J. Body Piercing:
Body piercings, other than earrings, are unacceptable. Students who wear such piercings outside the school MUST REMOVE and REFRAIN from wearing them during the school day or any school activity.

K. Tattoos: Tattoos are not acceptable.

Enforcement of Dress Code :Any student who arrives at school not in complete dress code, or is out of dress code during the school day, will be required to correct the dress issue.
If a student cannot have clothes brought to school or return home that day to correct
the problem, he/she will serve a “dress code violation” in-school suspension for that school day. Any time that a student is away from the school will be considered unexcused.

The administration reserves the right to alter the dress code and make final judgment on what is acceptable. After three minor dress code violations (no belt, shirt untucked, etc.), the student will serve lunch recess detentions. After three such detentions, the student will serve an after-school detention.

Failure to comply with dress code policy will also impact the student’s homeroom conduct grade. A student’s third offense will result in a 3 in homeroom conduct. Subsequent offenses will result in a 4 or 5 in homeroom conduct. All regulations concerning extracurricular activities eligibility requirements, academic honor roll, and conduct and effort honor roll apply. A student who persistently refuses to follow the dress code will be asked to leave the school.
