St.
Joseph Regional Junior High School builds a solid foundation in academics for the adolescent by
addressing the increased need for organization, personal responsibility
and study skills. The program is designed to meet the individual needs of
our students and prepare them for the challenges they will face as they
enter high school. Upon graduation, our students move on to a variety of
educational institutions including public, private, Catholic and boarding
schools.
English: Academic Writing: This is a
typical example of 8th grade student work, created after instruction in
the formula for writing a response-to-text essay, one of two academic
essay types used throughout a student’s education, the other essay type
being the essay of literary
analysis. Heroism
Unraveled The primary theme of Maximum Ride:
The Final Warning is heroism. Through this book, James Patterson is
trying to say that being a hero takes more than just saving yourself.
A passage that supports this thesis is found on page
89, which says, "I didn't know what was waiting for us, but I was ready to
find out." In saying this, the author is showing that one must have a
great deal of courage to be a true hero, and a true hero must overcome
[his] fears in order to save others as well as himself/herself. An example
of this form of heroism is a soldier fighting in the war in Iraq. These
brave soldiers must think of our country before thinking of themselves and
fight for our lives even if it means giving theirs. Thinking of yourself
before others can definitely serve as a challenge, whether it be for
soldiers or for me in my everyday life... (by A. Mark)
Spanish: Eva Peron
Eva Peron
visited the 8th grade Spanish class. Eva (Laura Irizarry) spoke about her
childhood in Buenos Aires and about her husband, Juan Peron, and her life
as Argentina's First Lady. The students learned a lot about her
rags-to-riches life, a life that was turned into musicals and movies.
Social Studies: Civil War Projects
The last image is of an 8th grade student in Union Civil War garb. The
project is part of a Civil War unit in 8th Grade United States
History.
Spanish: Cinco de Mayo
In the images found above, Mrs. Hamel's Spanish classes celebrate Cinco
de Mayo by smashing the customary pinata. In addition, during class on May
5th, students sample traditional Spanish foods, all part of the
integration of culture with the learning of a world language.
Art: Monogram Magic
Students prepared a work of art using their initials in a unique
design.
English 7: Letters to Veterans
Learning proper letter writing protocols, students in Mr. K's English 7
classes write letters to veterans, expressing thanks for their service to
all of us. In return, veterans write letters back to students.
Science
Seventh graders investigate the PH of vinegar, lemon juice, and
hydrochloric acid, part of a unit on organic molecules.
Math-Science-Art: Balloons The image
depicts the launching of student-made hot air balloons, the end of a
cross-curriculum unit that incorporates math, science, and art.
English: Hometown Challenge
Every month
English 8 convenes a town meeting called Hometowns to solve problems or
learning challenges. The purpose is to learn about working with other
people to create solutions that require knowledge, reasoning, and
creativity in real life situations we face or will face in life.
English 8: "Grammar Rocks" Project

work closely with parents to ensure that every child’s needs are addressed in
the most appropriate manner. Homework is also posted on the ‘homework hotline’,
giving both parents and students another tool to ensure academic success at St.
Joseph Regional. Our academic programs allow the flexibility to educate the
individual and to prepare students for positions of leadership in an
ever-changing global community.
The majority of the teaching and administrative staff have over fifteen years
of experience in the education profession, and many hold advanced degrees.
Beyond education and experience, our faculty and staff are devoted to St. Joseph
and its mission of providing the very best educational experience for all of our
students.
